Year 1 Block Course Pre-Course Recap
Last week in virtual night class, we worked through the EE401.19 pre-course session for the Year One Block Course, linked to Unit Standard 29749. The focus was on preparing for the first four block course tasks and identifying the areas learners may need to practise before attending.
Course Structure & Framework
We covered the block course structure, including:
- The EWRB stages framework.
- The seven assessed tasks.
- The concept of staircased learning.
Pro Tip: Speak with your employers about the skills covered so you can get some practical experience on site before the course.
Technical Revision Areas
1. Circuit Protection
We reviewed common protection devices:
- MCBs, RCDs, and RCBOs.
- HRC fuses and rewirable fuses.
- Motor overloads.
- Key Reminder: Rewirable fuses cannot be newly installed.

- Insulation resistance.
- Polarity testing.
- Tagging and recording results.
Safety First
We reinforced critical safe testing habits:
